About Spin Pro
Spin Pro is a B2B mobile app developed as part of the financial solutions offered by Oxxo, a subsidiary of FEMSA Group. While Oxxo’s well-established B2C solution, Spin by Oxxo, caters to individual consumers, Spin Pro was designed specifically for small business owners, particularly local grocery stores, to accept card payments and manage their finances efficiently. The app simplifies the complexities of payment processing and provides tools to track sales, cash flow, and other financial metrics, giving store owners a comprehensive overview of their business operations.

Project background
Spin Pro is part of Oxxo’s expanding suite of financial services, developed by Digital@FEMSA. Building on the success of the B2C solution Spin by Oxxo, Digital@FEMSA recognized the need to support small businesses, especially local grocery stores, in accepting card payments and managing their finances. This insight was gained through data from Coca-Cola distribution, where the sellers, known as 'Red truck drivers,' established strong relationships with local grocery store owners. These interactions provided valuable, first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by these businesses, leading to the creation of Spin Pro—a solution designed to simplify card payments and help store owners better manage their financial operations.

The challenge
Small businesses in Mexico, particularly local grocery stores, struggle to accept card payments and efficiently manage their finances due to outdated processes and a lack of accessible, user-friendly digital solutions.

My role on the project

In the Spin Pro project, I served as the Head of Product Design, leading a multidisciplinary team composed of product designers, UX researchers, and service designers. I was responsible for defining and executing the design methodologies used throughout the product life cycle, ensuring that the team followed a structured, user-centered approach.
My role also involved guiding the overall design vision, ensuring a cohesive user experience, and aligning the team’s efforts with the business goals. I worked closely with key stakeholders, providing strategic direction while overseeing the design process from research and ideation to implementation. My leadership focused on delivering a seamless and intuitive experience for small business owners and their customers.
Design process
The design process for Spin Pro was structured into two distinct phases to ensure we not only built a user-centered product but also executed it correctly.

Phase 1: Defining MVP
The goal of this phase was to understand how to build the right thing. We conducted extensive UX research to deeply understand the small business owners who would use Spin Pro. Through interviews, field studies, and surveys, we identified pain points related to payment processing and financial management. Based on these insights, we conducted a Design Sprint, where the team collaborated to define the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). This sprint allowed us to quickly prototype and test key features with potential users, ensuring that our initial product offering addressed their most pressing needs.

Outcome of the Defining MVP Phase
At the end of the Defining MVP phase, we had a well-validated understanding of the core needs of small business owners. The extensive UX research provided crucial insights into their pain points around payment processing and financial management, allowing us to pinpoint the most valuable features for the MVP.
Through the Design Sprint, we were able to quickly test and validate these features with real users, confirming that the MVP would address their most immediate needs. This phase resulted in a clear, focused product roadmap and a high-fidelity prototype that laid the foundation for further development.

Phase 2: Iteration and Launch
The second phase focused on how to build the thing right, driven by the Design Thinking methodology. Here, we iterated on the MVP based on user feedback, refining the product’s functionality and interface. This phase involved multiple rounds of prototyping and testing, enabling us to validate improvements and make data-driven decisions. The refined MVP was then launched to a controlled group of users, allowing us to gather real-world feedback before scaling the product to a wider audience.

Outcome of the Iteration and launch phase
During the Iteration and Launch phase, we refined the MVP based on continuous user feedback, ensuring that the product was not only functional but intuitive and user-friendly. Through multiple rounds of prototyping and testing, we made targeted improvements to the user interface, payment processing flow, and financial management tools.
Additionally, the final branding for Spin Pro was added during this phase, giving the product a cohesive visual identity. The final version of the MVP was launched to a controlled set of users, where we gathered positive feedback on its usability and effectiveness in helping small business owners manage their sales and finances. This phase validated the product’s readiness for broader rollout and provided a solid foundation for scaling.

Project Impact
Spin Pro was initially launched in a controlled deployment in specific City in Mexico, receiving highly positive feedback from small business owners. Although the specific data remains under NDA, the early validation encouraged Digital@FEMSA to further invest in payment solutions.
Ultimately, the company pivoted by acquiring Netpay—targeting medium and large enterprises—and launched a new product, ‘Spin Negocios,’ to focus specifically on small businesses. As a result, Spin Pro was dissolved, yet its user insights and learnings laid the groundwork for future strategic decisions in Digital@FEMSA’s financial solutions portfolio.
